Buying
the right desktop computer makes all the difference.
Buying the wrong desktop computer means that your computing life is
going to be costly, slow and, quite honestly, not a lot of fun.
Buying the right computer doesn't have to be expensive
at all but, buying the wrong computer always is! So, you ask, "How
do I make sure that I buy the right computer" Good question! Find
outlined below a few tips and pointers on what to look for and what
to be aware of before you purchase a new PC.
The first thing to be fully aware of is that there's a darn good reason why they're called Personal Computers. The reason is that every computer is personal, every network is different and no 2 servers are put together in the same way. Look, you know all those stupid conversations about which is better - a Mac or a PC? Well, guess what? Neither is better - or worse - it's just the person who uses them that differs in their personal tastes and computing habits. As well, computers, by and large don't get viruses or spyware - it is the user that unknowingly and unwittingly invites them into their machine.
One thing is for sure and, remember this well: there's no such thing as a cheap computer! Sooner rather than later someone is going to pay for that cheap computer with either their time or their money - or both - to provide the technical hardware and/or software support to make your computing life fun again. And, we believe that everybody's computing life should be fun.
Diodes, capacitors, transistors & resistors on a PC motherboard range from 1 cent to 10 cents. Guess how much a cheaper computer pays for their motherboard circuitry? 10 cents is not the correct answer! And, when the power goes out or fluctuates guess who's personal computer is going to suffer first?
In a way, size doesn't matter. The reality is that most of us are not going to be able to fill one of those newer hard drives of 350, 500, 650 Gigabytes (GB) or more. What a lot of computer vendors will do is try to get rid of those slower hard drives that spin around at a rate of 5,400 RPM or slower. The better hard drives will spin at 7,200 RPM or even 10,000 Revolutions per minute. This is a huge difference and, if you're young enough not to have figured it out yet - your time is the most important thing you have. Waiting for the hard drive to spin round at half-speed is, well, just a waste of your life!
Really, you have to aware of what you are going to do with your Personal Computer. It's yours, you're the one who is going to use it and what works for your friend or your kid or your associate across the hall is just not necessarily going to work for you. You have no idea how many calls I get from Grandma and Grandpa on a Monday morning that starts with "Our grandkids were here from college this weekend and: my email doesn't... or the screen says something about spyware...." or "my internet connection doesn't..." and it just goes on. Take a tip from me - ask a professional every time. They do it day in and day out for a living, on hundreds of different machines - unix, wannabe 'nix, macs and Windows based PC's - for hundreds of different types of computer users - gamers, sit-down & on-the-go business types, paranoid users, emailers, internetters and once-in-a-whilers. Helpful wannabees pretty much know only what works for them on their own personal computer. Helpful? NOT! Counter-Productive (for you)? Absolutely!
Have you ever heard of crapware? No? Well, please look it up on Google
or Bing or Yahoo. You'll get a pretty good idea of what to avoid. So
when you see someone like Dell selling this Inspiron laptop line of
14",
15" & 17" Laptop PC's - take a second look. They don't
come with pre-installed crapware that takes hours to remove and seriously
degrades the performance of any computer.
The number 1 piece of software that, when removed from your computer
enables at least a 40% performance improvement would be the infamous
Norton Internet Security Suite. Yup, what awful awful software and,
it probably got onto your machine through a vendor's "FREE" offer. It
was not free at all. It wasted your time and, if you had a Pro. analyze
your "crawling" PC you probably paid to have it removed.
Moral: Beware the wolves in sheep's clothing!
